With the Social Studies Olympiad, member associations the ‘Vlaamse Olympiade Vereniging’ and Francolympiades aim to increase social awareness, more specifically within students from the 5th and the 6th year of secondary school. The project, organised in partnership with Fedactio, bolsters curiosity for social themes by allowing the students to release their ‘inner sociologist’
The students approach the field of Social Studies from another perspective by applying school knowledge to cases in everyday life. The Olympiad challenges students to work creatively and independently, all of which is reflected in their final dissertation. For the finale of the Social Studies Olympiad, the most impressive dissertations are selected and the students are given the chance to defend their work in front of a professional jury.
